Arithmetic book, 1814-1824.

His "cyphering" book was begun while North was a student in 1814. It contains various arithmetical exercises, rules, problems, and computations, as well as popular philosophical quotations. The volume was later used as an account book, including weaver's accounts for such items as tow and birdseye cloth, accounts concerning masonry work and keeping school, and accounts of the estate of Andrew Failon ( - ), of whose children North was appointed guardian. The weaver's accounts appear to refer to orders commissioned by middlemen for resale to specific industries.
